To Save Gas, Shoppers Stay Home and Click
By. Stephanie Rosenbluth

Now that gas has skyrocketed, many shoppers have decided to stay at home and click to shop. People have now decided to forgo shopping malls and shopping centers and shop on their computer for their purchases. Retailers such as Gap, J.C. Penny, and Victoria Secret has seen an double digit increase in online purchases. This is creating an surprising bright spot in a gloomy economic environment. The retailers are offering free shipping to lure shoppers to the website, which is in contrast to other industries. J.C. Penny alone has seen an 8.7 increase in online shopping, but in contrast has seen a 7.4 decrease in mall traffic.

Most shoppers view shopping online as saving time and being more efficient. A, actress the in Los Angeles, now does all of her shopping online. According to her she buys everything except gas online, even her favorite health drink. She does not know how she would make it if she had to go out and buy everything. Even when she goes out to drive, she checks online to determine who has the cheapest gas available.

This article is interesting and so true in my daily life. I order textbooks, clothes, shoes, music, dvd’s, pretty much everything that I use in my life I can order online. Over the past year I have been introducing my mother to the internet. Now that she is retired and does not go out much, she uses the internet for entertainment purposes. She goes to several of her favorite stores and browse, and recently she has made her first purchase. Now my 60 year old mother is hooked to online shopping.
